A Great Post With a Great Idea

21 Aug

I find myself consistently going back to this post at A Cup of Jo. It is a reminder to be thankful for everything in my life. Before I go to bed at night and as soon as I wake up in the morning, I say thank you. I am grateful for the life I have and the experiences that have molded me. I am grateful for the family I was born into and for the lessons of love and understanding I have gleaned from them. I am grateful for my friends who have made sure that I am never alone. I am grateful for my body because it allows me to do great things. I am grateful for the ability to participate in each day on this earth and to share this moment with so many other souls upon it. I am grateful for this life, and I am doing my best to live it fully and wondrously aware!

In an ideal world we would all learn in childhood to love ourselves. We would grow, being secure in our worth and value, spreading love wherever we went, letting our light shine. If we did not learn self-love in our youth, there is still hope. the light of love is always in us, no matter how cold the flame. It is always present, waiting for the spark to ignite, waiting for the heart to awaken and call us back to the first memory of being the life force inside a dark place waiting to be born–waiting to see the light.

Leaving On a Midnight Train to Georgia!

15 Jul

Okay, so I’m not leaving on a midnight train to Georgia today (or rather tomorrow), but I will be taking the midnight train to Georgia in a few short weeks. It’s so cool! I was just thinking about my next travel adventure. I’m hoping that it will go well and that I will be able to spend time with my extended family. I haven’t seen most of them in many years now. It’s crazy how fast time flies by. It’s bittersweet sometimes.

The best loving you’ll ever get is the loving you give yourself, that love will live on and on sustaining you and bringing you your every desire.

Locate Your Activism

13 Jul

This is the message I have hanging up on my living room wall. I picked it up during the First Friday celebrations in Downtown Greensboro. I wandered into Elsewhere, a living museum on Elm Street in Greensboro, and they were giving away these posters for free, so I was wondering: What is my activism? I feel passionately about literacy, education (in all forms), art, equality, freedom…there’s so many causes for activism. Why choose one? What unites them all? The answer became obvious to me–love. Love unites them all. It unites every aspect of life. Without love there could not be life. Boom! I’ve located my activism. It was sitting in front of me all along. I am a love activist. A LOVE ACTIVIST!!!! I PROTEST against anything that is not done with love. The only rule in my love activism is the Golden Rule that so many have forgotten but should never forget: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” It’s not a Christian thing, a Muslim thing, a Jewish thing, a Hindu thing, a Buddhist thing, you get my drift? It is a common sense thing. Love yourself, respect yourself, and do the same to others.
